MT - 2026 NEC Changes: Wiring Methods, Protection & Equipment Changes (PGM)
Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive review of selected 2026 National Electrical Code changes affecting overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, grounding and bonding, conductors, wiring methods, enclosures, raceways, cables, and general-use equipment. Learners will examine updated requirements for overcurrent protective devices, surge protective devices, medium-voltage overcurrent protection, grounding and bonding terminations, supply-side bonding jumpers, grounding electrode conductors, and equipment grounding conductors in parallel installations.
The course also covers general wiring method and conductor requirements, including Article 300 scope changes, raceway replacement, roof deck equipment placement, raceway sealing, wet-location raceway requirements, conductor listing, minimum conductor sizes, sunlight resistance, ampacity considerations, and raceway installation practices.
Additional topics include enclosure requirements, box and fitting rules, support hardware, MC and NM cable applications, cable bending radius, RMC and IMC termination and fittings, nonmetallic raceway sizing, cable tray clearances, switches, wiring devices, replacement receptacle GFCI protection, switchboards, switchgear, panelboards, appliances, deicing and snow-melting equipment, motors, motor control centers, adjustable speed drives, and equipment exceeding 1,000 volts AC or 1,500 volts DC.
By the end of the course, learners will be better prepared to interpret and apply 2026 NEC updates to support safe, compliant, and practical electrical installations.

Identify NEC-recognized overcurrent protective devices and explain key requirements for their permitted use.
Describe trip-free circuit breaker operation and listing requirements for medium-voltage overcurrent protective devices.
Explain overvoltage protection requirements, including permitted locations for Type 1 surge protective devices.
Describe the voltage parameters and fundamental requirements of Articles 250 and 270.
Apply grounding and bonding requirements for terminations, supply-side bonding jumpers, ground rods, grounding electrode conductor splices, nonmetallic boxes, and equipment grounding conductors in parallel.
Explain 2026 NEC updates to Article 300, including wiring method replacement, roof deck equipment placement, raceway sealing, and aboveground raceways in wet locations.
Identify conductor requirements related to listing, minimum sizes, sunlight resistance, ampacity adjustment, temperature correction, and small conductor ampacity.
Describe raceway installation requirements, including allowable bends, fittings used in lieu of boxes, cable ties, fixing devices, and welding prohibitions.
Apply enclosure and box requirements related to service conductors, ceiling fan ratings, wiring accessibility, support hardware, and fittings.
Describe permitted uses and installation requirements for AC cable, MC cable, NM cable, metal raceways, nonmetallic raceways, and cable trays.
Explain updated requirements for switches, wiring devices, replacement receptacles, upward-facing receptacles, and park and recreation area installations.
Identify requirements for switchboards, switchgear, panelboards, appliances, deicing and snow-melting equipment, motors, motor control centers, adjustable speed drives, and equipment exceeding 1,000 volts AC or 1,500 volts DC.
