WA - 2026 NEC Changes: Protection, Grounding & Conductors (PGM)
Course Description
This course provides a focused review of 2026 National Electrical Code changes related to overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, grounding and bonding, conductors, and general wiring method requirements. Learners will examine NEC-recognized overcurrent protective devices, permitted locations for overcurrent protection, trip-free circuit breaker operation, Type 1 surge protective device placement, and listing requirements for medium-voltage overcurrent protective devices.
The course also covers grounding and bonding updates, including the voltage parameters and fundamental requirements of Articles 250 and 270, grounding and bonding terminations, supply-side bonding jumpers for generators, ground rod installation, grounding electrode conductor splicing, nonmetallic boxes used with metal wiring methods, and equipment grounding conductors in parallel. Learners will also review Article 300 and Article 310 requirements related to wiring method replacement, equipment beneath roof decks, raceway sealing, wet-location raceways, approved cable ties and fixing devices, fittings used in lieu of boxes, raceway bends, conductor listing, minimum conductor sizes, sunlight resistance, ampacity adjustment, temperature correction, and small conductor ampacity.
By the end of the course, learners will be prepared to interpret and apply updated 2026 NEC requirements for protection, grounding and bonding, conductors, and wiring methods in safe, compliant electrical installations.

Describe trip-free circuit breaker operation and listing requirements for medium-voltage overcurrent protective devices.
Explain overvoltage protection requirements, including where Type 1 surge protective devices are permitted.
Apply grounding and bonding requirements related to Articles 250 and 270, terminations, supply-side bonding jumpers, ground rods, grounding electrode conductor splices, nonmetallic boxes, and equipment grounding conductors in parallel.
Describe Article 300 scope changes and requirements for replacing wiring methods, equipment beneath roof decks, raceway sealing, and aboveground raceways in wet locations.
Identify approved cable ties, fixing devices, fittings used in lieu of boxes, raceway bend limits, and raceway installation restrictions.
Recall conductor listing requirements, minimum conductor sizes, sunlight resistance requirements, and small conductor ampacity values.
Explain when ampacity adjustment and temperature correction may be ignored under applicable NEC conductor provisions.
